house updates

We are still plugging along on our house.  The never ending to do list...  I thought I'd share an update of the things that we have done lately.  I may be forgetting some stuff but I do have some pictures so here we go!

Last year we got a new roof, new couch and painted the exterior.

Here's the post-roof, pre-paint before picture.  New facia boards had already been put on to replace the termite eaten old ones.
After: We painted the house gray with white trim.  The front door is teal.  Doug also made this cool address sign out of pallets.
We also worked on the kid's rooms.  Archer's room got some fun decals, our changing table got a glossy black makeover, and we put up some new art.

The girl's got a bunk bed!  They are loving it so far, and I am loving that we were able to move a lot of the big toys into their room with all of the space!

A few weeks ago we also got air conditioning!  I am looking forward to that this summer!!!!

I'm pretty sure we're going to have our house done just in time to move...

archer two months

Archer is two months old!
Height: 23inches (76%)
Weight: 9lbs 14oz (25%)
By the third baby, you really appreciate how quickly it all goes by, and I've been trying to enjoy our sweet newborn as much as I can.

Archer is such a good little baby!  I've been doing baby wise for him, and it seems to be working.  He's doing great at napping and sleeping amazingly well at night. Hopefully that keeps up!

Nicknames for Archer:

  • Archie
  • Arch
  • Archie-bubs
  • Bubba
  • Archibald

Milestones:
  • Archer is smiling and cooing.  Love those gummy smiles!
  • He is tracking with his eyes and loves watching his sister's faces.
  • He's slept a few 8 hour stretches and one amazing 11 hour stretch!
Arch is growing like a weed!  He's a SLOOOOOW nurser but seems to be getting his fill.  It makes me so sad that he's grown out of most of his newborn clothes.

Archer joined the family for a Disneyland trip when he was six weeks old.  What an adventure!  He was pretty chill and went on Peter Pan and Small World.

Our little love has a red hint to his baby fuzz, so we are excited to see how his hair comes in!  We love you Archer Lee!  We are so happy to have a baby brother!

archer lee's birth story: part 2

The anesthesiologist arrived shortly and got to work on my epidural.  My contractions were so close together at this point that I had to have a contraction during the insertion of the epidural.  Trying to stay still while being in so much pain was not my favorite.  But sweet relief.  I started to feel that amazing tingly feeling, and I was looking forward to feeling good in a matter of minutes.  But wait.  As one side of my body became more and more numb, the other side was...not numb.  At all.  I let the nurse know and she lay me on my side, hoping the medication would work it's way over.  No luck.  She boosted my epidural twice, nothing.  I felt the baby move into the birth canal.  I paged the nurse to let her know.

The nurse came in and decided to call the anesthesiologist back to redo my epidural.  As he was setting up, Archer started coming out.  I couldn't control it.  It was so painful, and the contractions were just pushing him out on his own.  Doug, helpless next to me, had been praying over me but somehow managed to get a video of the birth.  The nurses stopped the anesthesiologist, called in the on call OB, Archer basically just came out.  No pushes or anything.  In the video, I'm just yelling, "OUUUCH!  IT HURTS SO BAD!"

I've heard natural birth people say that it feels good to push.  I disagree.  I mean, I didn't actually push, but the birthing part was the most painful.  And it didn't feel better after until the placenta was delivered too. But when they put that sweet boy on my chest, I was pretty darn happy.  He seemed so tiny, and he was!  6 lbs 11 oz of love, 19.5 inches.  Archer was born an hour after we got to the hospital and was closest to a natural birth that I hope I ever get.  I had no tearing this time around, so my recovery has been more or less non existent.  God is so good, blessing us with this sweet surprise.  We couldn't be more in love with our little Archie.

archer lee's birth story: part 1

Our baby boy is here and he is the sweetest little thing!  We're completely obsessed!  He was born January 3rd at 3:11pm. I wanted to write down his birth story while it is still fresh in my mind, so here it is.

I was HOPING to give birth before the new year.  You know, tax write off and all ;)  Also, I had both of the girls at 39 weeks 1 day, so I was expecting my third to come earlier than that.  Doug had a few extra days off for Christmas and the New Year, so we enjoyed these days as a family of four, anxiously awaiting the arrival of our new bundle at any moment.

On the night of the 2nd, we went to our friend, Joe's birthday party.  I never thought I would still be pregnant at that point, but we made the most of it, and enjoyed the night celebrating our good friend.  I was starting to feel a little bit off, not contractions, just general aches and a bit out of sorts.

The next morning, I woke up at around 4am which wasn't too abnormal at this point.  I was often waking up in the middle of the night, wondering if my Braxton Hick's were actual contractions and timing them.  I felt a few of what could have been an actual but very mild contraction, but nothing to write home about.  Violet woke up at 5:15 as is usual these days, so we went out to the living room and watched cartoons. I was optimistic that the baby could come and felt a few more contractions that were maybe painful, so I set about cleaning, organizing, and generally getting ready to go to the hospital.

When Doug woke up, I told him that I thought I may be in very early labor.  He asked if I wanted to stay home from church, but I didn't want to get my hopes up, so we all got ready and head out the door.  We got to church, and I let my friend and neighbor, Whitney, know that I was feeling some contractions, and today might be the day.  I timed my pains throughout church.  They were getting somewhat painful at this point, but they weren't consistent at all and often felt more like lower back pain than a tightening of my entire stomach like I felt with Violet.  I was unconvinced.  After church, Whitney asked if she wanted us to take the girls then, but we decided to head home, have a big lunch of In n Out, and let Violet nap.  By this point, I was having an occasional pretty painful contraction, but they still couldn't be timed so I wasn't sure what to do.

After lunch, I decided to try a walk.  I texted Whitney that I wasn't sure what was going on, and I didn't want them to be waiting around for us all afternoon, so they should carry on with their day.  I grabbed Kennedy, left my cell phone, and we went for a walk around the block.  We ran into our other neighbors, Justin and Jen, who were taking down Christmas decorations in the front yard.  Their girls had received a new swing set for Christmas, so we decided to stay and play for a bit.  It was about 1:30 at this point.  I asked Justin to text Doug and let him know that I wasn't giving birth on the sidewalk somewhere.  After about 15 minutes of chatting and play, we decided to go home and wake up Violet.  I lay down for a few minutes on the couch, and almost immediately began to feel ridiculously painful contractions.

"We need to go RIGHT NOW." I told Doug.  I had already packed up the bags, so Doug grabbed Violet out of her bed, and I texted Whitney that we were coming over to drop the kids off.  My contractions were between 1 and 3 minutes apart at this point and very painful.  I was kicking myself for having waited so long after I had done the same thing with Violet.  When we pulled up to the hospital.  Doug decided to park on the 4th floor instead of letting me out at the curb.  The same thing he did with Violet.  This just makes me giggle.  So, we walked through the parking structure, to the elevator, down the giant corridor, and made our way back up to the 3rd floor to Labor and Delivery.

Fortunately, when we got to L&D, there were no other patients, and the nurses were excited to see me.  I explained that this was my third child and that my contractions were very close together.  My nurse checked me right away, and I was already at 6 cm.  I immediately requested my epidural and things were on their way!

Part 2 coming when I get another few minutes.  Which are few and far between these days ;)

kennedy is four

What a big year this has been for our Kennedy Jane!  This girl is gentle, kind, compassionate, and I love watching her grow and learn.  Kennedy continues to LOVE babies and will sit and play with a baby the whole time we're having a play date.  I'm hoping she likes her baby brother as much!

Favorites:
Books: Harry Goes to Day Camp, Ten Tiny Fairies, Fairytales, she also loves when I make up stories for her.

Foods: Brussels sprouts with bacon (this is what she requested for her birthday dinner!), pizza, salad, fishy crackers, ice cream sandwiches.

Games: Playing "family" with whoever is around, board games, princess laptop computer, taking care of babies.  Kennedy plays pretty well by herself these days and often will go into the playroom and be lost in a game for long periods of time.

Milestones:
Kennedy can identify and write most upper case letters.

Kennedy started preschool two days a week in September, and it's been mostly good.  She has one of her best buddies in her class and loves the activities, but she has a hard time remembering how much fun she has there when we're getting ready in the morning.  We're going to stick with it through the end of December and decide if we need to try something different.

She's my big helper while Violet naps.  We cook together (although this has become less common during pregnancy), and work on other big girl projects.

This girl is such a joy to hang out with.  As she gets older, we have been having more mommy daughter dates and have been able to do some really fun things together.  For her birthday, we had "girl time" and got our nails done, went to the mall, and went to Yogurtland (all her idea.)  We wore matching outfits, and she realized we had forgotten to put on lipstick as we were leaving the house.  Seriously, this girl kills me.  She is growing in her faith and has many questions about sin, the holy spirit, the trinity, and it's such a joy to get to teach her and watch her blossom.

baby brother

Surprise!  I'm currently 35 weeks pregnant with baby number 3.  It was a big surprise to all of us.  A "how did this happen?" sort of thing, but here we are, and we are really excited :)  I'm a total space cadet and didn't realize that I was pregnant until I was eight weeks, so this pregnancy has gone by particularly fast.  Our baby boy is due on my sister's birthday, but we're having we have the baby before the end of the year for tax reasons ;)

violet is two

Happy Birthday to our Vivi!  Violet is hilarious, fun, and good spirited.  She is an encourager and a peace maker.  This girl has so much spunk!  She speaks really well for her age, and provides entertainment for us all with her stories and songs.  Also, I'm obsessed with her fine, straight, super blonde hair.  It just kills me!

Height: 35" (90%)
Weight: 27lbs 4 oz (75%)

Favorites:
Books: Richard Scarry books, How Do Dinosaur books, Ladybug Girl

Foods: We took Violet off of dairy about 5 months ago, ad it seems to have really improved her rash. Bummer is, she totally loves dairy, so it's limited her diet quite a bit.  She still loves ribs, french fries, watermelon, hamburgers, and ketchup on EVERYTHING.
Songs: Old McDonald which she always ends with "All through the town."  It's amazing.  The Wheels on the Bus.

Games: Leap Frog School toy, dressing up like a bride with her sister, going for "walks" with her baby stroller around the house.
Violet meeting Think at a friend's birthday.

Places: Twinkle Twinkle kids cafe and Kids Concepts- both indoor playgrounds

Milestones:
This girl is a brave little thing.  She will go down big slides, jump off of things, and climb all over.  She still isn't always very aware of the space around her and frequently bumps into things because she is so enthusiastically throwing herself around.

Violet adores her sister and they play so well together.  They will actually sort of play make believe together.  Violet is usually the baby and will crawl around or be pushed around the house in the doll stroller.  It's just in time for the new baby to come!

Violet is still sleeping like a champ in her crib.  Her early morning wake up is a bit of a bear but I can't complain about her naps or the night time sleep.

Violet and I did a Mommy and Me ballet class while Kennedy was in preschool.  It was so much fun!  She loved doing "tippy toe twirls" and the teacher gave them a special prop every week to use like a crown, wand, doll, or feather duster.

She still does the "cheeser" smile so natural pictures are hard to come by these days.  But I sure love that face!!!

Miss Violet, what a blessing from the Lord you are to our family!
