work it kennedy: cardigans

When Holly asked if I wanted to look through the 6 month size bin of Addie's hand-me-downs, I had a few things in mind to borrow: onesies, sleepers, maybe a few rompers or cotton summer dresses.  Practical stuff.  Then I opened the bin.

I kept pulling out cardigan after cardigan.  Gorgeous little baby cardigans in every color of the rainbow.  Many of them hand knit, some with detailed embroidery.  And most of them never worn.  So I left her house with a few onesies, one sleeper, four pairs of patent baby shoes, and seven cardigans.  I have no self control.

I call this outfit Kennedy's Sarah Jessica Parker outfit.  Two sets of stripes, a rainbow of colors, and yet, it works.  And holy cuteness.  Seriously?  Man, I love this kid.

work it kennedy- pumped up kicks

Thank goodness my mother saved one item from my babyhood.  These Nike sneakers are the only thing that made it.

In more important news, Leigha and Brian welcomed sweet baby Jackson into the world on Saturday.  I can not wait to meet that little nugget.  I literally cried my eyes out watching this video and later realized that I was mostly just emotional because I'm not up there to see him in those magical first days of baby newness.

work it kennedy- mouthy

We have a tradition when naming Kennedy's toys.  It started back with Auntie Mimi, circa 1991.  See, Mimi named all of her pets, stuffed animals, and toys after a physical trait of the creature.  Take one look at the creature in question, point out it's most obvious feature, and chances were that you had guessed the name of the animal.  There was "Silky" (our silky cat), "Brownie" (our brown mouse), "Peachy" (her peach colored stuffed bear), you get the picture.

Doug and I decided that we would continue on in this tradition as a tribute to Kennedy's auntie while she's off exploring the globe.  We have "Mrs. Pigeon" (her stuffed pigeon), "Mermaidy" (her mermaid), "Bluey Big Nose" (her blue elephant), and "Beaky" (her duck).  For Easter this year, Doug's mom knit Kennedy the sweetest little bunny rabbit.  We informed Doug's brothers of our naming process.  Brendan took one look at the bunny and said, "Why don't you call her 'Mouthy'?"

We all looked at him confused.  "Umm...Brendan...she doesn't even have a mouth..."

"But she puts the bunny in her mouth!"  And sure enough.  That thing is in her mouth all the time (along with everything else).  Good work Brendan.  And welcome to the family Mouthy.

work it kennedy- tights

Has anyone else noticed that a lot of baby tights look like ladies pantyhose?  I'm not even down with those, and I'm certainly not going to make Kennedy wear them.

My advice?  Proceed with caution when purchasing baby tights.  Look for thick tights made out of knit material.  Babies in pantyhose are seriously creepy.

work it kennedy- motto

Hi Guys, it's Kennedy.  You know, just writing my first blog post.  Now, I don't want to brag or anything, but my dad is an Eagle Scout.  He's taught me a few things in the five months that we've been hanging out.  I can tie a slip knot, start a fire without a match, and, most importantly, I learned the boy scout motto.  So when the weather forecast said 'rain' last week, I naturally went to my closet and grabbed my rain coat.  Nothing spoils a great day like water spots on my onesies.  And lets be honest, nothing says 'chic' like a great trench.  It's win-win.

work it kennedy- the tale of the fluffy boots

Our dear friends, Holly and Ben, have a two year old daughter, Addie, whom we borrow a lot of hand-me-downs from.  Last month when I arrived at their house for a play date, there was a small pile of clothes by the door.  Addie brought the pile over to me saying, "These for Baby Kennedy."  It was some stuff that Addie had never worn because it wasn't their taste, or they had something else too similar.  Imagine my joy and glee when I open a small box and see these:

The most amazing fluffy boots that I have ever laid eyes on.

Ben looked over at them and rolled his eyes saying, "Holly, you're not going to make her take those.  She doesn't want those stupid things."

I resisted the urge to sprint out of their house with the boots clutched tightly to my chest.

Kennedy reminds me of a little citizen of Whoville from the Grinch when she wears this outfit.

work it kennedy- diy fail

So, I made these really cute rosettes when I was on bed rest.  What better thing to do with them than glue them to a headband! (Baby needs more headbands...obviously...)  What I didn't realize is that the headband would stretch and that the rosettes would separate awkwardly.  #diyfail.

work it kennedy- chucky

My dad was so excited to see Kennedy last weekend that he decided to buy her a special present.  "Hmm...what to buy my favorite granddaughter?" he pondered.  Then he had it!  Quickly, he turned on his computer and brought up Google.  What did he type in, you ask?  "Baby wigs."

And here, my friends, is what we received:

The best part?  The company was out of blond hair with pink headband.  As a special apology, they sent my dad not one but TWO beautiful wigs.  Man, are we lucky.  Wig #2: coming soon to a blog near you.

work it kennedy- party dress

Welp.  We made it home from Santa Cruz.  The plane flight was actually a piece of cake.  It's the drives to and from the airport that are pure torture.  This lady just does not like the car seat.  I feel like I'm being a terrible parent when I put her in it.  Should I just stop going anywhere?

Kennedy is wearing:
Headband: Made by cousin (love you Corinne!)
Dress: Koala Baby
Tights: Deux Par Deux

work it kennedy- traveler

Kennedy is taking her first airplane ride today (sans umbilical cord, that is).  I'm not generally one to freak out or get nervous about traveling, but I am panicking.  Daddy isn't going to be with us.  What if her ears don't pop?  What if the stroller breaks under the plane?  What if the flight is full and I have to sit next to a giant man who is squishing over onto my seat while trying to breastfeed her?  What if she screams the ENTIRE time?

Good news is: it's only a 45 minute flight.
Better news is: Kennedy slept 10 hours last night AND took a 3.5 hour nap this morning.  Mommy and baby are both very well rested.

Work it Kennedy- Chub

Before Kennedy was born, I always hoped that I would have a super huge baby.  I'm not sure why; I think I'm just kind of obsessed with chubby baby cheeks.  Well here Kennedy is, and people are always commenting on how teeny tiny she is, but I think she holds her own.  Chubby cheeks-wise I mean.

Work it Kennedy- Pink and Grey

Carters must have had a collection of pink and grey clothes while I was pregnant because I realized yesterday that Kennedy has 4 or 5 pink and grey outfits!  No complaints though, I think it's an excellent color combination for a little lady.  Pink, obviously, is what she looks best in, and grey is the "it" neutral of the moment. Right Suri?

PS- Should I spell it "gray" or "grey"?  Which one is f-ah-ncier?

Work it Kennedy 1-27-12

We experienced a small tragedy last week.  It's difficult to talk about.

Kennedy lost her first sock.

People always told me that you lose baby socks all the time.  I refused to believe it.  I love Kennedy's socks.  Each pair is so cute.  It adds the perfect touch to any outfit.

It started out as such a good day.  You got dressed in a cute little outfit, and obviously, we picked out the perfect socks to match.  We walked down to the grocery store and had a lovely time wandering up and down the aisles while people admired you, and mommy picked up some treats.  When we got home, I pulled you out of the stroller only to find that a sock was lost!

I considered retracing our steps, but you were over it, and it was a pretty long walk back to the store.  RIP sock.  You will be missed.

Kennedy is wearing:
Hat: hand me down
Hoodie and Pants: Carters
Socks: Not the ones she lost.  I'm saving you from the pain you would experience if you saw how cute they were.

Work it Kennedy- Pears

Kennedy and I are having such a great week!  On Monday we celebrated MLK day by driving down to Long Beach and having a delicious crepe breakfast with some of our favorite girls.  We had savory crepes filled with eggs, bacon, cheese, and avocado AND we had sweet crepes with nutella, strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream.

Tomorrow we are driving to San Diego to meet Kennedy's second cousin Devlin!  He was born a month before Kennedy, and they are going to be great friends.

Kennedy is wearing:
Top- hand me down Circo
Pants- hand me down Carters
Headband- DIY
Socks- Mud Pie

Don't socks just make an outfit?  Who knew?

I'm kind of obsessed with this face.
