Work it Kennedy- Squirrel

At my baby shower in LA, the girls decorated some seriously cute onesies.  Meet exhibit 'A'.  Does anyone else think of the movie Up anytime they hear the word "squirrel"?

Onesie: The Gap with DIY squirrel
Pants: Circo
Socks: Trumpette

Work it Kennedy 1-27-12

We experienced a small tragedy last week.  It's difficult to talk about.

Kennedy lost her first sock.

People always told me that you lose baby socks all the time.  I refused to believe it.  I love Kennedy's socks.  Each pair is so cute.  It adds the perfect touch to any outfit.

It started out as such a good day.  You got dressed in a cute little outfit, and obviously, we picked out the perfect socks to match.  We walked down to the grocery store and had a lovely time wandering up and down the aisles while people admired you, and mommy picked up some treats.  When we got home, I pulled you out of the stroller only to find that a sock was lost!

I considered retracing our steps, but you were over it, and it was a pretty long walk back to the store.  RIP sock.  You will be missed.

Kennedy is wearing:
Hat: hand me down
Hoodie and Pants: Carters
Socks: Not the ones she lost.  I'm saving you from the pain you would experience if you saw how cute they were.

2 Months Old

My little Birdy is 2 months old!

Weight: 9 lbs 12 oz (25%)
Height: 22.5 in (50%)

At 2 months you:
  • Are still in newborn diapers but we're going to switch to size 1 after this box.
  • Have grown out of your newborn clothes.  Sad face.
  • Still have male pattern baldness, but you're starting to get a little bit of hair on top.
  • Smile and coo.  It's the greatest thing ever.  We're working on teaching you how to laugh by laughing this really annoying fake laugh in your face.
  • Rolled over once.  Doug and I both weren't paying attention when it happened.  I walked back into the room to check on you, and you were no longer doing tummy time!  I was so confused.  I think it was an accident.  We'll see if you can figure it out again.

You love:
  • The Ergo Baby Carrier.  Seriously, this is the best carrier ever.  It puts you to sleep instantly, and you love being all cozy against mom or dad's chest.
  • Talking to mom and dad.
  • Sleeeping!  You have slept through the night since you were six weeks old!  You go to bed between 8 and 9pm, wake up at 5 or 6am to eat, and then go back to bed for another 3 or 4 hours!
  • Baths and showers.
  • Being dressed up.  Every day.

You hate:
  • Being in the car when you're awake.  You scream bloody murder.  It's pretty fun for mom.
  • Getting shots.  But not as much as your parents did.

Some highlights of your second month:

  • Getting locked in the car at the mall.  Just kidding.  This was a low.  The firemen came with their sirens on and everything.  It was quite the ordeal.  Mom bawled the whole time.  You were only locked in the car for a few minutes, and when I pulled you out, you just smiled and showed off your cuteness for everyone.
  • Leigha, Mallory, and Jacob came to visit!  Seriously.  Best present ever.  We had such a great time taking Jacob to the beach, the park, and to feed the fish and ducks.  We even got a few precious moments of baby free time in the afternoons while both kids took naps that we spent reading Us Weekly, eating chips and candy, and watching the Kardashians.  Bliss.

LA Baby Shower

Corey, Rachel, and Mary Beth threw me an amazing baby shower in LA!  They hosted it at their house in Long Beach, and it was so fun.  It was the perfect day because it was raining outside, and they had a fire in their big fireplace.  The decorations were so adorable; it was seriously the cutest baby shower ever!  We had lots of my favorite treats including cupcakes with cream cheese frosting, mini fruit tarts, cheese and crackers, and hot chocolate.

Kennedy got so many great gifts including a lot of homemade things!  The girls also decorated onsies using fabric pieces.  They came out so cute!

Ruffle butt onesie made by Rachel.

Quilt made by Grandma Hulse.  Isn't it amazing?  It's the same fabric as Kennedy's changing pad cover.

Kennedy and me with some of my high school girls.  I love them so much!

I didn't get a team photo of everyone, but this one is pretty close!

Christmas in Santa Cruz

This year we got to go up to Santa Cruz for Christmas.  Since I wasn't working, we got to stay up there for Doug's entire Christmas shut down!  It was the longest that we've been able to spend in Santa Cruz since we've been married.  I was a little bit wary of driving the 6 hour drive with Kennedy, but she was a champion.  She slept the whole way and only woke up once to eat.

Since my sister is in Germany, she spent Christmas morning with us via Skype.  Santa brought Kennedy a mobile gym, car seat toys, and lots of diapers.  My brother got her an American Apparel hoodie.  Amazing, right?

On Christmas Eve Eve, we had a family Christmas dinner with Cliff's kids minus my sister, Mollie, and Seth.

Kennedy met her Grandma Chris for the first time, but I didn't get any pictures of them together!

While we were in Northern California, we drove out to Livermore to meet Miss Savannah Grace, my dear friend Sarah's little lady.

And here is what Kennedy wore for Christmas.

Dress: hand me down Carters
Hat: Gymboree
Socks: Mud Pie

Santa Cruz Baby Shower

Months and months ago, my mom and sister threw me a beautiful baby shower in Santa Cruz.  My grandma, aunts and cousins were all there along with all of my high school besties.  There were even a few special visitors!  Jen drove down from Petaluma, and Sarah flew up from San Diego.  Such a good day.

Two highlights of the day?  My sister and dad compiled some home videos (or family flims as we call them) onto a dvd for me, and my mom digitized a ton of pictures for me.

Check this one out.  I'm pretty sure it's my favorite.  Shaving our legs on a cousins camping trip.  I'm the man-child on the left.

We had amazing food, decorated burp clothes and onsies, and Kennedy got a ton of presents.  It was such a good day!

Work it Kennedy- Pears

Kennedy and I are having such a great week!  On Monday we celebrated MLK day by driving down to Long Beach and having a delicious crepe breakfast with some of our favorite girls.  We had savory crepes filled with eggs, bacon, cheese, and avocado AND we had sweet crepes with nutella, strawberries, bananas, and whipped cream.

Tomorrow we are driving to San Diego to meet Kennedy's second cousin Devlin!  He was born a month before Kennedy, and they are going to be great friends.

Kennedy is wearing:
Top- hand me down Circo
Pants- hand me down Carters
Headband- DIY
Socks- Mud Pie

Don't socks just make an outfit?  Who knew?

I'm kind of obsessed with this face.

Work it Kennedy

It has been suggested that I start a style blog for Kennedy.  While I think it's a great idea, it seems a bit overly ambitious to me at the moment.  I mean, I have trouble keeping up with this blog.  I've decided instead to start a special feature right here dedicated to the wardrobe of Miss K.  This is big news people.  Get excited.

I decided to take a cue from the Kendi, Jen, and the other blog celebs and kick things off in true style blogger fashion.  Kennedy's outfit- thrifted.

Thanks Auntie Wratch Dawg for my first thrifted outfit.  And thanks Kennedy.  For working it.

Home Maker

I guess we don't really call it that anymore, but as of last Friday, I am officially a "home maker."  Doug and I had always planned on me quitting my job when we had kids, and now that Kennedy's here, that desire is so much stronger.  Kennedy is such a little peanut still.  I can't imagine leaving her.  I had to go in for a day of work in order to clean out my desk, hand off my work, etc, and even being gone for that day was hard.

Doug stayed home with her the day that I went in (he had that Friday off), and he did such a good job.  We had been practicing giving her a bottle the whole week leading up to it, and she will gulp those things down!  At one point during the day, he called me and asked, "So what do you do with her when she's awake."  I thought that was so funny.  He doesn't see her awake that often because she still sleeps 20 hours a day and is usually asleep or ready to go to sleep and fussy when he gets home.

Leaving my job is bittersweet because it was truly an awesome job!  I had wonderful coworkers, customers that were great friends, and the best boss ever.  Not to mention the pay was good, and I got a company car. I hope whoever takes my position enjoys and appreciates it as much as I do.

Now it's time to learn what moms do.  Should I cut coupons since our income is halved?  Should I start cooking dinner?  That was always Doug's thing.   I do clean a mean house though.

Can't wait to kiss tiny baby toes all day!

Maternity Photoshoot

Remember when I said that I only had one picture of me hugely pregnant?  I forgot.  Two days before I delivered our dear friend of Figlewicz Photography took maternity photos of us!

I can't believe how big my belly was.  And that Kennedy was in there only 6 weeks ago!
